Karachi, October 23, 2025 — The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme has set yet another global performance milestone, becoming the fastest electric hypercar at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, known as the “Green Hell” of motorsport. The record follows just one month after the car achieved an unprecedented top speed of 496.22 km/h at the ATP Papenburg circuit, cementing YANGWANG’s position at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation.
YANGWANG, the luxury sub-brand of BYD, confirmed that the U9 Xtreme completed the 20.832-kilometre Nürburgring lap in 6 minutes and 59.157 seconds on August 22, 2025 — a remarkable performance that shaved over five seconds off the previous record for Electric Super Sports Cars. With this achievement, the U9 Xtreme became the first electric hypercar to break the seven-minute barrier on one of the world’s toughest race circuits.
Engineering excellence behind the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme
The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme was developed through extensive testing at the Nürburgring since July 2024. According to YANGWANG engineers, months of data collection and refinement were critical in achieving the record-setting performance.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li praised the engineering team, stating:
“We are dedicated to pushing the limits of what technology can achieve. The Nürburgring is a legendary challenge for both cars and drivers, and it was only natural for our engineers to pursue their dreams there. The U9 Xtreme has proven it is not just the world’s fastest car in a straight line but also one with the dynamic precision needed to dominate on the circuit.”
The U9 Xtreme’s lap was piloted by Moritz Kranz, a seasoned German racing driver with nearly 10,000 laps of experience at the Nordschleife. Kranz lauded the collaborative effort between YANGWANG and BYD, saying the result was a “testament to their ability to balance extreme power with precision handling.”
Power, technology, and control: redefining the electric hypercar
Built on the world’s first mass-produced all-domain 1200V ultra-high-voltage platform, the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme is equipped with four high-performance electric motors, each capable of reaching 30,000 rpm. Combined, these motors deliver over 3,000 PS, giving the car a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne — setting a new global benchmark for electric performance vehicles.
The U9 Xtreme also features the advanced e⁴ Platform and DiSus-X intelligent body-control system, both designed to optimize driving dynamics and aerodynamics. The car’s “body-attitude control” technology allows real-time adjustments to suspension and stability, offering exceptional balance between top-speed performance and precise cornering — a critical advantage on the Nürburgring’s complex terrain.
To withstand the extreme demands of the track, the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme is fitted with a new titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic braking system, an enhanced cooling system, and GitiSport e·GTR² PRO semi-slick tyres developed jointly with Giti. These components enable the car to handle intense heat, high-speed braking, and prolonged high-load conditions across the 20.8-kilometre circuit, which includes more than 70 corners and dramatic elevation changes.
A new chapter in YANGWANG’s global ambitions
YANGWANG’s success with the U9 Xtreme is not only a technical milestone but also a significant statement of intent from BYD’s premium division. The record reinforces the company’s commitment to innovation, performance, and sustainable mobility.
The limited-edition U9 Xtreme will have a production run of just 30 units worldwide, making it one of the most exclusive hypercars ever produced. Each model embodies the brand’s philosophy of blending cutting-edge electric engineering with the artistry of automotive design.
The name “Xtreme” derives from the word “Extreme,” symbolising “limit” and “ultimate,” while the inclusion of the letter “X” signifies “the unknown” — reflecting YANGWANG’s pursuit of technological exploration and boundary-breaking performance.
“The U9 Xtreme demonstrates what is possible when passion, engineering, and innovation come together,” said Stella Li. “We are not only breaking speed records; we are redefining what electric performance means for the entire industry.”
The future of high-performance electric mobility
With this record, YANGWANG has solidified its reputation as a global leader in electric hypercar development. The U9 Xtreme bridges the gap between innovation and performance, proving that electric vehicles can outperform traditional combustion engines in both speed and endurance.
The achievement also underscores BYD’s expanding influence in the global automotive landscape. As the company continues to invest in research, advanced materials, and intelligent control systems, vehicles like the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable mobility.
